An elegant late nineteenth-century pocket-watch stand in the Louis XVI Revival style, finely fashioned in gilt bronze and lined with softly faded red velvet.
The angled circular support measures approximately 6.5 cm in diameter and features a small upper hook designed to hold a pocket watch measuring up to 5 cm in diameter. When suspended, the watch can be displayed as a charming miniature bedside or desk clock while remaining protected from contact with hard surfaces.
The central support rises from a shallow circular tray with decorative neoclassical detailing. The tray may also be used to hold a watch chain, winding key, rings or other small personal objects.
Ideal for a bedside table, dressing table or writing desk, this refined accessory combines practical use with the warmth and character of an authentic antique. It comes from the contents of an eighteenth-century Portuguese manor house.
The stand has been restored. A previous soldered repair remains visible where the central support joins the base. There is age-related patination, wear to the gilded surface and fading and wear to the red velvet, all consistent with its age and history.
