A charming vintage lidded ceramic tureen from an old Portuguese manor house.
The cream-coloured ceramic is individually hand-painted with stylised flowers and foliage in warm terracotta-red tones. Fine gilt edging adds an elegant decorative finish, while the lid is topped with a sculptural fruit-shaped handle accompanied by two raised leaves.
Although the maker is unknown and the piece bears no visible factory mark, its decoration and shape reflect the tradition of Portuguese decorative tableware.
This substantial piece would make an attractive serving dish or decorative centrepiece for a dining table, dresser, kitchen cabinet or sideboard. Its aged character is particularly suited to traditional, country-house, romantic and eclectic interiors.
CONDITION
Fair vintage condition. The tureen shows visible signs of age and previous use, including patina, surface marks and wear to the painted and gilt decoration.
Despite these age-related signs, it remains in good overall decorative condition.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
