A charming vintage ivory-coloured Pyralin celluloid box, with a rounded form, fitted lid and softly aged patina. Compact and elegant, it would have originally belonged on a dressing table, used for powder, small cosmetics, jewellery or personal keepsakes.
Its early plastic material was created to imitate ivory, but this piece is not animal ivory. Ivory Pyralin was a DuPont celluloid material used for vanity and dresser accessories in the early 20th century. Based on the material, form and comparable Art Deco vanity boxes, this piece is likely from circa 1920s–1930s. It comes from the old Portuguese manor house and remains in very good condition for its age, with only light signs of time.
