This delightful miniature “Folhinha Histórica – civil e ecclesiastica” was produced for the Reino de Portugal e Algarves for the year 1849, credited to António José da Rocha and printed in Lisbon (dated 1848, as was typical for almanacs prepared ahead of the coming year). Its compact format was designed for everyday reference: a portable guide to the year’s rhythm, combining religious feast days and ecclesiastical notes with civil calendar information.
Small enough to live in a waistcoat pocket, it has the quiet charm of objects that were truly used—handled, consulted, and carried—yet it remains in very good condition for its age. Pieces like this are wonderful for collectors of Iberian print culture and devotional/civic ephemera, and equally appealing as a styling detail in a library, study, or curated shelf.
Provenance: from a Portuguese solar (18th-century house), and guaranteed to be an authentically old item.
