Late-Victorian walnut jewellery box, circa 1890, with cast lion-mask ring handles, an ebonised inset lid panel and a decorative armorial-style boss to the centre. White-metal escutcheon to the working lock (no key).
Design & materials
Figured/burr walnut veneer over a pine carcass; black-stained (ebonised) lid panel; brass/bronze side mounts; red textile/paper lining and a fitted mirror (17 × 12 cm) under the lid. Classic period details that sit well in traditional, eclectic or old-world interiors.
Condition
Good antique condition with honest age-related wear: scattered surface marks and small dings to the veneer; tarnish to mounts; minor rubs and marks to the lining, a few small age spots to the mirror; lock present but no key. Structurally sound and clean inside. Please see photos.
